I need a steel seat tube for a project. If necessary, I'll just pick up a $20 bike and cut it off, but I hate to destroy something that functions.

If anyone happens to have, or runs across a junk frame, I've got your lunch money.

Pat had the expertise... stock adapters! I don't know why my google-fu was so weak I couldn't find them.
