FAQs:
Q. Do you need to be a mountain biker to participate?
A. Heck no. Anyone's welcome. We've had hikers, equestrians, fraternity members, and spouses/significant others help out on trail days.
Q. Do I need tools to help out?
A. It's not necessary. The USFS provides many tools, plus the SMBA has an assortment that we bring along.
Q. I don't have a car, but I'd like to help. Is there any carpooling?
A. Usually people meet at a Carbondale location, like the Bike Surgeon, and then car pool. If you need a ride, post up on the forum at smbatrails.com and I'm sure you'll get a ride.
Q. Do you guys ride after the trail day?
A. Heck yes. If the trails are relatively dry, many of us will go for a ride to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Q. I've never done trail work. Is there anything I need to know?
A. It's a good idea to wear boots, because the trail might be muddy. Gloves are necessary, but if you forget them, we'll have extras. If you are under 18 years old, you either need to be accompanied by a guardian or have a work agreement signed with the USFS.
